VJPAD
Tap the pads to play videos and sounds.
Tip: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. VJ Pad then opens like an app, full screen, and your work is kept safer.
How to use VJ Pad
Make your show
Add videos. Short clips work best: 2 to 20 seconds, MP4, 720p.
Add sounds. MP3, WAV and other sound files become pads too. Use short sounds for hits, or a song to play under your show.
Each clip gets a pad and a key. Press the key or tap the pad to play it.
Click or tap a pad to change it. Use the tabs on the right.
Sound level: quiet and loud clips are made about the same loudness. Change this in the Clip tab.
Add words makes a pad that shows a word or sentence on the screen.
Play a song under your show
Add the song with + Add sounds.
A long sound starts as Press on, press off. Press its key once to start the song. Press again to stop it.
Too loud? Open the Effects tab and move Sound down.
Change the key
Click a pad. Open the Clip tab.
Tap Add a keyboard key.
Press a key on the keyboard.
Velocity (how hard you hit)
Hit softly or hard. By default, soft videos are darker and hard ones are brighter, and soft sounds are quieter. To change this, use the Velocity tab. One clip can have its own setting, or all clips can share one setting in All clips.
Modulation: effects that move by themselves
In Modulation on the left, click + Add modulation. Choose what moves it (the source) and which live effect it moves. Amount is how much. A minus amount moves it the other way.
Wave A and Wave B go up and down with the tempo. Choose the shape, and how many beats one wave takes.
Sound level, Low sound (bass) and High sound follow the sound that VJ Pad plays.
Hits jumps up when you hit a pad, then falls.
Tempo: type it, or tap Tap on each beat.
Brightness, Invert and Strobe cannot be modulated. This keeps flashing safe.
Useful keys
Space stops all videos and sounds.
Shift + key is a hard hit on a computer keyboard.
Esc leaves full screen.
On a Start or End time: scroll or drag to move it. Click to type a time. Hold Shift to move 10 frames.
Click or tap high on a pad for a hard hit, low for a soft hit.
On an iPad
Tap the pads to play. You can tap several pads at the same time.
A keyboard case works too. MIDI controllers do not work on iPad browsers.
Open VJ Pad from its website, not from the Files app. Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
To show it on a projector, use Screen Mirroring or a cable.
Save your work
The program remembers your kit on this device. To move it to another device or give it to your teacher, click Save kit. Use Record to make a video of your show.
If something does not work
A video will not play? Change it to MP4 (H.264).
A sound will not play? Change it to MP3 or WAV. Sounds can be up to 10 minutes long.
Some keys do not work together? Many computer keyboards can only press a few keys at the same time.
Slow? Use smaller videos and fewer layers.
Safety: fast flashing can make some people sick. Ask your class before you use Strobe.
